3 Tips: Future Perfect

Business professional in a suit making an OK hand gesture, symbolizing confidence, success, and approval in the corporate environment.

You’re just separated, or are thinking about it. You have no idea of what to do, where to go, or who to talk to. You are feeling overwhelmed.

You’re not alone.

Here are several tips which I think will help, if you find yourself in this situation.

Firstly, do not rely on legal advice or information from your chiropractor, dentist, accountant, or twice divorced best friend. This warning particularly applies to your soon to be ex.

Secondly, call a family lawyer for information before taking any steps, or having discussions with your partner about what you will agree to, or not, moving forward. If you ignore this advice, this can seriously jeopardize the possibility of a fair and amicable settlement.

Thirdly, when you arrange an appointment with a family lawyer, whether me or someone else, to have an initial no-charge consultation, it’s tempting to begin by sharing all your thoughts and personal feelings about your partner. However, you are there to obtain advice and information about your best interests, so let the lawyer ask you a few questions to begin.

This will greatly help the flow of information. The better the quality of information, the better the advice will be.

Don’t hesitate to tell your lawyer what issues are the most important to you, this will help focus their advice, and be of greater benefit to you.

When the conversation ends, take a deep breath for yourself, and think about what was said.

Taking these tips, you are now in a much better place to make informed and decisive decisions.

Your future awaits. I can help, Scott Taylor 604.534.6361
